Alexander P. Chun

Hi! I'm Alex. These days, I'm an American Studies doctoral candidate at Brown University, where I am also pursuing certificates in both Gender and Sexuality Studies and Digital Humanities.

My research and teaching interests are in the nexus of media and cultural studies, queer studies, and Asian/American studies.

Grounded in Asian/Americanist critique, my ongoing dissertation project, tentatively titled "Sex in the Digital Age," interlaces critical media studies methodologies with ethnography to linger with the aporetic moments — the contradictions, illegibilities, and ethical opacities — that arise as public/private spheres are rescrambled (or otherwise utterly obliterated) by sex and digital technologies. Ultimately, this inquiry constellates race, sex, and digital technologies as co-constitutive interlocutors.

I worked as an assistant editor for Camera Obscura: Feminism, Culture, and Media Studies. In 2026, I won the Best Graduate Student Essay Award from the Association for Asian American Studies.

Outside of my academic endeavors, other things I enjoy include: making music, Seoul, the color blue, and papaya salad.
